Diaspora NIN Registration Begins August 2025 — NIRA Confirms.

The National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) will begin diaspora registration in August 2025, starting with Ugandans in Dubai and Qatar. The programme allows citizens abroad to enrol for or renew their National IDs, including making corrections.

NIRA spokesperson Claire Ollama confirmed the rollout during a joint security briefing in Kampala, noting that coordination with embassies is complete. More countries will be added in phases.

Meanwhile, over 100,000 renewed IDs have been produced and dispatched to local issuance centres as part of the mass enrolment and renewal exercise that began in May 2025. The campaign targets 15.8 million renewals and 17.2 million new registrations.

Ugandans can now use NIRA’s online pre-registration portal to apply before visiting an enrolment centre for biometrics.
