DJ Jacob Omutuze Regrets Premature Announcement of Bebe Cool’s Death After 2010 Shooting Incident
Media personality DJ Jacob Omutuze has expressed deep regret over prematurely announcing the death of legendary musician Bebe Cool following the Garden City shooting in January 2010.
During the chaotic incident, Bebe Cool was shot in the upper left thigh by Special Police Constable Anthony Achikane after a scuffle broke out, sending shockwaves across Kampala. In the confusion that followed, early, unverified reports circulated claiming that the singer had died.
At the time, DJ Jacob Omutuze was working with Dembe FM, and he admits he was among those who shared the inaccurate information. He recalls that the station was overwhelmed with calls, panic, and conflicting reports but he now acknowledges that rushing to announce the news was a serious mistake.
The drama didn’t end there.
According to Omutuze, Bebe Cool stormed into the Dembe FM studios with visible injuries, furious and hurt by the false reports surrounding his condition. The musician confronted Omutuze directly, accusing him of spreading misleading information that intensified public fear and confusion.
Omutuze says the incident left a lasting mark on him, teaching him a powerful lesson about the weight of media responsibility especially during breaking news situations.
Despite the turmoil, Bebe Cool survived the shooting, recovered, and continued to dominate the music scence
