Museveni Rallies Supporters in Pader, Promises Continued Development
President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on Thursday spent the better part of the afternoon in Pader District, Acholi sub-region, where he rallied voters to support him and the National Resistance Movement (NRM) ahead of the 2026 general elections.
The President, who is also the NRM national chairman, arrived at Pajule Primary School grounds in Pajule Town Council around midday to a warm reception from party leaders and enthusiastic supporters. The venue was a sea of yellow, with hundreds of residents waving NRM flags, singing party songs, and chanting slogans in praise of the ruling party.
He was received by top NRM officials, including the party’s Vice Chairperson for Northern Uganda Hamson Obua, Secretary General Richard Todwong, and several NRM parliamentary flag bearers from the Acholi sub-region.
In his address, President Museveni commended the people of Acholi for maintaining peace and embracing government programs aimed at improving livelihoods. He reminded them of the region’s transformation since the end of insurgency and emphasized his government’s commitment to consolidating security, expanding infrastructure, and boosting household incomes through initiatives like the Parish Development Model (PDM) and Emyooga.
“We have worked hard to bring peace to Northern Uganda. What remains is for every household to use this peace to create wealth,” Museveni said. “Do not be misled by opposition groups who have no solutions to your problems. NRM has a clear plan that has been working for decades.”
Museveni also encouraged the youth to take advantage of government empowerment programs and shun divisive politics. He urged local leaders to ensure transparency in implementing development initiatives, saying corruption at the grassroots level undermines progress.
Earlier, Hamson Obua praised the President for his continued attention to Northern Uganda’s recovery and called on residents to reward his leadership with overwhelming support in 2026.
“The people of Acholi have witnessed real change under your leadership,” Obua noted. “Our roads, schools, and health centers are improving, and we are confident that with your guidance, more development will come.”
During the event, local cultural troupes entertained guests with traditional dances, while NRM mobilizers took turns pledging their support for Museveni’s reelection bid.
The President is expected to continue his campaign trail across other districts in the Northern region in the coming days as part of his effort to consolidate NRM’s support base ahead of the polls.
