Pastor Murdered in Ambush: Security Investigates Brutal Attack in Butebo District.
News
Security authorities in Butebo District are currently investigating the tragic murder of a pastor along Ladot road earlier this week.
Richard Malinga, a resident of Oboliso Village in Kalapata Subcounty, Pallisa District, was serving as a pastor with the Baptist Church in Pallisa.
Reports indicate that he was ambushed by unknown assailants while returning home from his duties on Monday evening.
John Okia, chairperson of Kayum Sub county, described the shocking discovery: "He was last seen around Kayum trading centre late in the evening, heading home. However, the next morning, his lifeless body was found by the roadside."
Preliminary reports suggest that the deceased suffered severe head injuries, resulting in his death and significant blood loss. The attackers also stole his motorcycle.
"We are still investigating the weapon used to inflict the fatal blows," said Carol Nantongo, Deputy Resident District Commissioner of Butebo.
Local leaders noted that similar incidents have occurred recently along this stretch of road. Just months ago, a teacher met a similar fate in the same area.
"A teacher was also killed in a similar manner while riding home late from school. These incidents highlight the urgent need for enhanced security operations along this road," Okia remarked.
Ms. Nantongo acknowledged the growing concern over attacks in the district and committed to increasing nighttime patrols.
"We will be implementing regular patrols," she assured. "We urge the public to cooperate with us as we work to apprehend those responsible."
The body of the deceased has been transferred to Butebo health facility for further examination as investigations by the police are ongoing.
