President Yoweri Museveni has come out strongly against opposition leadership in Kampala, blaming them for the persistent rise and poor conditions in the city’s ghettos over the last three decades.

Speaking during a recent address, Museveni pointed fingers at past and present opposition figures including the late Al-Hajj Nasser Ntege Ssebagala, former Kampala Mayor John Ssebaana Kizito, and National Unity Platform (NUP) leader Bobi Wine, accusing them of failing the people.

“For over 30 years, you have been misled by leaders who don’t care about your future,” Museveni said. “You need liberation real leaders who will improve your lives, not just use you for politics.”

The President’s remarks sparked debate online, with many defending the late Ssebagala and Ssebaana for their contributions to Kampala, while others agreed that the city's slums have seen little to no improvement under opposition-dominated leadership. Museveni called on urban youth to open their eyes and rally behind leaders focused on development and transformation.

As Kampala gears up for the next election cycle, Museveni’s message appears aimed at shifting loyalty away from the opposition strongholds in the capital.
