Spouts of Water and TASC partner with Tooro kingdom to distribute 30,000 Purifaaya™ ceramic water filters

SPOUTS of Water together with their international partners TASC (The African Stove Company) have partnered with the Tooro Kingdom to freely distribute 30,000 PURIFAAYA™ Ceramic Water Filters worth over UGX 3 billion to households within the region. The project duration is 6 months and each beneficiary household will be trained about the Purifaaya ceramic water filter and how it works and also sensitized on how to assemble, maintain and clean the ceramic water filters to ensure constant use as well as to ensure that the beneficiaries don’t go back to the traditional methods of accessing drinking water. The launch of the project was held in the Kingdom at Kidudu Primary School on 29th March 2022 and the ceremony was graced by the Prime Minister of Tooro Kingdom Bernard Tungwaho. The Prime Minister endorsed and launched the project in the presence of the Local leaders RDC, LC3, LC5 and tasked the kingdom leaders to follow on the execution of the King’s project and report back. The target beneficiaries are households that use three-stone fires to boil/treat their drinking water and those that do not treat their water before drinking. The Purifaaya ceramic water filters will be given to the beneficiaries at no cost to ensure that the households get safe and clean drinking water, eliminate water-borne diseases, and also save the environment through the reduction of tree cutting to use as fuel for boiling water. The Filter is easy to use in that it requires no boiling of water, removes 99.9% of germs, and requires no electricity to operate. Over the next 7 years, SPOUTS and TASC hopes to provide 200,000 people in the region with long-term access to safe and clean drinking water.
