Tooro Kingdom Seeks Shs925 Million as Coronation of King Edward Rukidi Nyabongo I Nears

The Tooro Kingdom is seeking Shs925 million to facilitate the coronation of King Edward Rukidi Nyabongo I, scheduled for September 29, 2026, as preparations for the royal ceremony get underway.

The fundraising drive is already in progress, with members of the public, friends of the kingdom and well-wishers encouraged to contribute towards the organisation of the historic event.

The coronation organising committee, chaired by Monsignor Isaiah Mayombo, has appealed for financial support to help meet the costs of the ceremony and its related activities. Alex Ruhunda, who heads the finance committee, reportedly confirmed that a Centenary Bank account had been opened to receive contributions, with members of the public also able to support the fundraising effort through mobile money.

The celebrations are expected to feature a series of traditional rituals ahead of the main coronation ceremony. On the night of September 28, the king-designate is expected to leave Rwengoma Palace in a procession to Karuziika Palace in Fort Portal, where traditional ceremonies will be conducted.

The main coronation programme on September 29 is expected to include a church service at St John’s Cathedral in Fort Portal, followed by the official enthronement ceremony at Karuziika Palace.

The organising committee has also extended invitations to traditional leaders from Uganda and beyond, political leaders, members of the business community, academics and the general public.

The fundraising campaign comes as the kingdom mobilises resources and finalises preparations for the ceremony, which is expected to bring together cultural leaders, dignitaries and members of the public to witness the royal celebrations.
