Uganda’s U17 national team has made the country beam with pride after securing a historic 1–0 victory over France at the FIFA U17 World Cup in Qatar marking their first-ever win at the global tournament and sealing a spot in the Round of 32 as one of the best third-placed teams in Group K.

The game was a true showcase of heart, talent, and determination. The young Cranes struck early in the 18th minute when James Bogere calmly slotted home the only goal of the match after a brilliant assist from captain Hamuza Ssegoba. The combination sent Ugandan fans inside the stadium and across the country into wild celebration.

From that moment on, it was all about resilience. The boys held their ground against the attacking waves of a frustrated French side, with goalkeeper Brian Kintu producing world-class saves and defenders Paul Owor and David Lumu leading an unbreakable backline.

When the referee blew the final whistle, it was history written in bold letters Uganda’s first-ever FIFA U17 World Cup victory! The players celebrated passionately, draped in national flags, while chants of “For God and My Country!” echoed through the Qatari night.

Head coach Jackson Magera couldn’t hide his joy after the match:

“This win is for Uganda. These boys have shown that our football belongs on the world stage. We are proud, and we are just getting started.”

With this victory, Uganda advances to the Round of 32, continuing their fairytale run and inspiring a new generation of dreamers back home.

From Kampala to Qatar, the message is clear Uganda has arrived.
